Smiths Fire was started in 1977 by Jack Smith, who left the local Fire Service and was soon joined by his son Richard. In 1980, John Royles joined the company and both Richard and John played important roles within Smiths Fire. John has recently retired, but his daughter Kate continues to work for the company. Richard now has the role of senior partner, with his wife, and children as partners. Smiths remains very much a family business, with family values.
